Wirksworth Estate provides independent living and high-care accommodation for 50 residents.
A beautiful location – flat site, set within well established parkland, and close to nearby beach and community amenities – the site also came with a few hidden engineering challenges.
The site is in a flood zone and comes with a high water table. In addition, significant aboriginal sites and artefacts were discovered, plus the site contained numerous trees of significant natural value, both elements requiring nil disturbance from the development.
Close collaboration with the Architect and the Landscape Architect were key to ensuring integrated flood control measures , plus simple/cost effective, yet functional and low impact foundations and drainage systems, were all seamlessly incorporated into project designs.
