Tolosa Park, a popular location in Glenorchy, was tied to Tolosa Dam but despite its size, the dam was unable to provide clean water to the community. It was this driver that encouraged the Glenorchy Council and TasWater to team up and rethink the purpose and useability of the Park and the surrounding areas. Transitioning the existing dam to a new modern water storage tank facility marked a significant milestone for the Glenorchy area. The Park rehabilitation scope wasn’t merely a matter of addressing a water quality issue it was also an opportunity to enhance the park’s recreational amenities for the entire community.
The Council engaged with residents to collect local input in an effort to understand their future desires for Tolosa Park, including the need for more shaded areas, improved recreational facilities and amenities for dog walking. With community support, Inspiring Place was engaged to prepare a formal master plan which was approved in 2021. Subsequently, JMG who are renowned for their expertise in infrastructure development and attention to detail, were enlisted as consultants to lead the comprehensive analysis and detailed design work. Tasked with ensuring compliance with strict standards and navigating budget constraints, JMG's role was crucial in shaping the success of the project which saw us responsible for managing the construction phase across nearly 100,000 square metres of land. This complex project involved bulk and detailed earthworks, stormwater drainage solutions, pond modeling, and the implementation of essential infrastructure such as water, irrigation, and power systems across the site.
JMG's expertise and dedication played a key role in overcoming the challenges of such a large-scale project, ensuring smooth progress and conformity to high-quality standards. The contributions by JMG facilitated the efficient execution of the construction phase and laid the foundation for Tolosa Park's transformation into a remarkable community hub.
As the site nears completion of its first stage, encompassing earthworks, landscaping, paths, and essential services, including water and stormwater management, a second phase looms on the horizon. Future plans include the construction of additional concrete structures, including a boardwalk to traverse one of the ponds. With each milestone achieved, Tolosa Park moves closer to its envisioned transformation and promises to be a welcoming space for the Glenorchy and Tasmanian community to enjoy for years to come.
